COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 16-hour + 24 hour Georgia Armed Guard Card certification course provides comprehensive training required for armed and unarmed security officers in the state of Georgia. The curriculum covers legal responsibilities, powers of arrest, use of force, and the Georgia Weapons Carry License (Blue Card) requirements when applicable. Students will learn professional conduct, report writing, incident observation and response, conflict resolution, and basic emergency procedures including CPR and first aid principles. Emphasis is placed on situational awareness, de-escalation techniques, and ethical decision-making in security operations.
Interactive classroom instruction and practical exercises develop skills in patrol procedures, access control, alarm response, handgun safety and proper handling and storage of firearms for armed applicants. Course Description — Georgia Guard Card
This course provides the instruction required to obtain the Georgia Guard Card (armed and unarmed). It covers state-specific laws, regulations, and best practices governing private security officers in Georgia, and prepares students to perform duties professionally, safely, and lawfully.
Course objectives
Explain the role, authority, and responsibilities of a Georgia security guard, including permissible actions and limitations under Georgia law.
Identify and apply relevant Georgia statutes, local ordinances, and regulatory requirements affecting private security, including use of force, arrest powers, and reporting obligations.
Demonstrate proper procedures for detainment, citizen’s arrests, and interacting with law enforcement.
Recognize and de-escalate potentially dangerous situations using communication, conflict resolution, and non‑lethal control techniques.
Demonstrate safe, legal handling, storage, and use of firearms (for armed applicants), including weapon safety, marksmanship fundamentals, and use-of-force decision-making.
Apply first-aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures appropriate for security professionals until emergency responders arrive.
Perform patrol duties, access control, incident documentation, evidence preservation, and chain-of-custody procedures.
Understand professional conduct, ethics, report writing, confidentiality, and customer service expectations for security officers.
Identify workplace hazards and implement basic occupational safety measures, including fire prevention and emergency evacuation.
Prepare for the Georgia Guard Card exam and licensing process, including required documentation and application steps.
